1. Know What Pollen is in Season
Austin Regional Clinic offers a great resource for those of that are in Central Texas. I find myself referencing the Austin Allergy Calendar frequently throughout the year.
2. Get Ahead of the Season
Starting your allergy regimen early could lead to fewer symptoms especially during peak season. Also, get plenty of rest and stay hydrated.
3. Chat Up Medical Professionals
In addition to talking to your doctor about your allergy protocol, consider expanding your horizons. I learned about several homeopathic remedies from compounding pharmacist and herbalist. Always ensure that your doctor knows what you are taking to ensure you do not experience any complications.
4. Resist the Urge to Open Windows
While it may be a beautiful day outside and you are interested in, “airing out the house,” don’t! By doing this you are contaminating your home with pollen and will exacerbate your symptoms.
5. Change Clothes When You Get Home
This one is similar to keeping windows closed. Your clothing locks in pollen and when you sit on the couch, or lie on a bed or come in contact other furniture, you are spreading pollen throughout your home. To keep allergens at bay, change as soon as you arrive home.
